The doldrums get even the best of us. When you find yourself tired of scrolling Instagram incessantly or you’ve run through all the movies on Netflix, it’s about time to find yourself an activity to fill up that empty space. What better way to turn that instant of boredom into a moment of self-care?
If you’re currently looking for things to do alone to kick boredom to the curve, here are 6 simple self-care activities to try!
Self-Care Activities To Do When You Feel Bored
1.Declutter your space
Decluttering may not sound like the most exciting activity, but it’s one of the most important things. We can do to look after our mental health in the long run. Plus, having an organized kitchen cabinet or wardrobe will give you an endorphin rush like no other!
Living in an organized home can have an enormous impact on your mood. It helps you feel at peace in your personal space. Moreover, it’ll make you a more productive person, help you find things easily, and keep you focused.
Decluttering your entire house may sound like a super overwhelming task to take on, so instead, focus on one section for now. It can be your wardrobe, your bedroom, your kitchen, or any other space you feel needs a little organizing. It’s easier to focus on small things rather than looking at the full picture. Once you’re done with that section, you can either stop there or find yourself another spot to tackle!
Here’s a pro-tip: to help you get motivated you might try listening to a video or audiobook about tidying and cleaning your space. If that’s not your vibe, turn on some tunes and start to declutter while you groove.
I promise these two tips will make decluttering such a fun self-care activity!
2.Declutter your social media accounts
Speaking of decluttering, something else that may need a little cleaning may be your social media accounts.
Social media has made the comparison game a real threat to our mental wellbeing. Ask yourself: How many times have you felt bad about your life/your body/your finances after looking at someone else’s seemingly-perfect life?
While deep down we know social media is more of a highlights reel rather than the full picture. Falling into the comparison trap is easier than ever.
If looking at someone’s social media updates makes you have negative feelings towards yourself, unfollow them. Yep, it may feel rude, but it’s totally okay to prioritize your mental wellbeing (you can also just snooze them if completely removing them isn’t an option or if it makes you feel uncomfortable… they won’t ever know!).
As a tip, make sure your social media feeds are filled with people who inspire you to be better and things you actually love looking at. As Marie Kondo puts it, if it doesn’t spark joy, discard it.
3.Create a list of goals for the week ahead
Feeling bored is a result of not having much to do (duh?). If you’re currently looking for something to do or you’re simply feeling uninspired and are looking for ways to keep procrastinating, a wonderful way to get out of that rut is by creating a list of goals you want to achieve in the short term.
Create a list of professional goals as well as personal ones. As a tip, make sure to keep it short and realistic so as to not overwhelm yourself. Who knows, you may even get inspired to drop the boredom and start tackling your goals!
Don’t forget taking care of the future YOU is also EQUALLY as important as taking care of the YOU right now!
4.Create a vision board
Grab a pen and paper and write a list of everything in your life you feel grateful for. It can be as simple as that cup of tea you get to drink every day, moments of you’ve had, and the people in your life you’ve shared them with.

5.Write a gratitude list
Grab a pen and paper and write a list of everything in your life you feel grateful for. It can be as simple as that cup of tea you get to drink every day, moments of you’ve had, and the people in your life you’ve shared them with.
Taking a moment to reflect on the things in your life you’re grateful for can not only remind you not to take them for granted but also give you a brand-new perspective on life.
Bonus points if you take it a step further and reach out to someone, you’re grateful for and connect with them. Tell them how much they mean to you. I bet you won’t regret it. Plus, another great way to conquer boredom is to share your time with others.
6. Write a letter to your future self
It may sound cheesy, but writing a letter to yourself is probably one of the most heartwarming ways to fill up the next hour. While you can simply grab a paper and get writing, I recommend sending it digitally via tools like Future Me (they’ll send it out on the date you choose to get it!).
Not only is this guaranteed to tear you up when you receive it in the future, but writing a letter to yourself is a surefire way to get super vulnerable about your feelings, your goals, and the person you hope to be on the date you set the letter to be sent out.
