Ease your anxiety and stress with this short mindfulness meditation practice.
In this class we’ll explore being present in your mind and body by focusing your attention on your breath.
By practising being present, our anxiety can tend to lessen or dissipate because usually our anxiety is related to rehashing things that have happened in the past or maybe preparing or worrying about things that may or may not come true in the future.
Once we practice being present, we make space to explore our anxious thoughts and feelings with less fear and more clarity.
We can start to break apart the judgements or the stories we are telling ourselves as an anxious thought or feeling shows up.
For example, you might be anxious about an upcoming project or deadline. When you are grounded in the present moment, you can start to separate yourself from the thinking mind which tends to wander to the past or future.
You might notice how the anxiety is showing up in your body. Are there physical sensations that show up? What immediate thoughts cross your mind?
Any judgements are you making about yourself? What stories are you telling yourself about this project or whatever it is that is making you anxious?
Maybe you have:
-fears of the end result not being good enough
-maybe being unworthy,
-perhaps you have fears around not getting it all done in time and maybe losing your only source of livelihood.
Once we can recognize and let go of the judgment or the stories around what our anxiety is telling us. We can then see with more clarity what we can control. And if those fears and worries have truths to them.
By shedding judgements, we can invite in more compassion, kindness and patience for what’s going on and how we are feeling.
This is always much easier said than done, but it’s worth a shot to try and keep trying to dig at your thoughts.
With continued time and practice it will become easier and more second-hand to acknowledge the judgements and release them.
Tune in live at 12:30PM (EST) / 4:30PM (GMT) every Wednesday for other short mid-week meditation practices like this. .
